Throughout all the videos, readings, and articles I seen, the way teachers are teaching has hanges dramactically. Like i meantion in my educational philosophy, evertyone one is using tech from sunrise to sunset. With that in mind, the question is how do I as a teacher use teachnology tools in the classroom.
The intergration of technology in a elementary school setting often requires a balanced approach. Especially for younger students, we need to support social interctions, fine mortal skills and play (DAP). At the same time, in this curent time, the use of screentime is a huge concern for everyone, so I wont be usinng screens for every single activity in the classroom, but it can be useful for many classrom strategies. Technology in the classroom should be able to balance digital fluency with on on hands learning.
Using the Station strategy, I can divide the classroom into small groups. Each of the small visists three stations, in which there is teacher lead, Tactile play, and tech station. Teacher led station is guieded learning, which allows for social interaction in guided reading and math, while following how each individual students work. Station two is collaborative play, which do many mini projects surrounding a lessson. The last station is a tech statioin, in which students go on adoptive learning websites or apps that adjust to the students level. The strategy allows for personilzed practice and learning, while the other stations follow with human connections. With the second station, so many other learning styles can be supported. Another interesting in whoch using audio tools that narrate stories and books. Book Creator allow student sto create thier own digtal books, by taking pictures of their own drawings and record thier voices for narration. IT helps with students reading and language skills.
With using technology in the classroom for evalutaion of the strategy, the primary objective when it comes to elementary school students is developmental milestones and how engage students are. Oberservation serves for the because younger children physically demostrate how engage they are in the classroom, compared to a high school class. SO if the student is just mindlessy clinking or zoning out, then the idea needs to be reworked or another must be implemented. It can also serve as a way to complile a digtal portfolio of students works, behaviors and progress.
Seesaw, a classrrom managemnt system does that. Its a student driven digtial portfolio that students can used to capture, organize reflect on their learning and record all their assignments. Students can upload pictures, videos, audio, drawings links and textnotse to these notebooks. Teachers can upload assignments within the platform and proivde written and voice feedback on theloo asigments. Plus, parents can use get on the plaformt and view, like and comment on their child notebooks. Finally most learning websites oftern complile students progress for teachers to see, based on those analytics, teachers can make an desicon on what best. Finally, when it comes to looking at how students are connected with technology themeselves. Most student this day an age are aleady using technology, like smartphones and tablets. As teahcers we cannot ignore students digtail lives, its creates a disconnect betweene school life and their outsides lives. Teacher can teach how to naviagte the internet and use it purposeful and safely. We can leverage their familarity with the internet, especally with gaming platforms like Roblox or Mincecraft. How? Those two games for example are known as sandbox games. These kind of games are there for anyone to explore their creativity. Both games have educational resources at hand. Roblox opening it's educational hub for students to learn coding and core subjects. Minecraft has an education mode, there is many games that students can explore and play, and wel as create using the periodic table of elements.
